Iceland Ultimate Back-country Photo Tour

We are in the process of planning a huge, best ever tour to Iceland, it was going to be for 2019, but COVID and time have gotten the better of us, so now it’s going to be 2026 or possibly 2025.  It will be the “Non iconic ultimate back country tour of Iceland”!  quite a mouthful really, we will have to think of a catchier name… Let’s just call this a working title.  Perhaps ” Iceland, Wild and Untamed!” Or simply the “Untamed Iceland Tour.”

Iceland has become very popular and very busy, and most of the easy to get to iconic locations are now so crowded you have to stand in line to get in and the carparks can be full of hundreds of huge tour buses!  This is actually fine, because the best parts of Iceland are not the iconic easy to reach locations, but the interior where almost nobody goes.

But What do you want to see?

It depends what you want really…  If you want all the images you have seen on Instagram hundreds of times, then this tour is not for you, because we won’t be going to those places (Those places are still amazing, just crowded).  If you want unique images of stunning locations you won’t have seen on Instagram then this could be the tour for you.

Ultimate Iceland Tour of 2017

In 2017 we ran the “Ultimate Highlands” tour, which was awesome, 14 days in the highlands of Iceland, the South Coast and the big waterfalls in the far North (This was our 5th Iceland photo tour).  Thing is, we still did the South Coast and lots of the coastal ring road where many of the classic iconic spots are… and there were just too many people.  So for 2026 (or 2025) we are planning something even more unique (still staying in hotels, not camping), something extra special.   A smaller group, more remote, the most incredible landscapes that Iceland has to offer and no crowded bits!
So if you want to see the real Iceland, and get the photos that you haven’t seen up on Facebook (or Instagram) this could be the tour for you

The Details so far.

We are still in the planning phase, so details are sketchy, but so far we have…
  • 14-16 days on tour in the back country of Iceland.
  • Tour will begin and end in Reykjavik, Iceland.
  • August – September 2025-2026.
  • No Iconic South Coast waterfalls or Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon on this tour!
  • Though we are discussing a possible 5 day pre tour on the South Coast.

Details will be out soon on this 2025-26 Iceland Tour, to be the first to know email Adam  adammonk@icloud.com
