WAPF Quairading Photography Weekend
Last weekend, almost straight after returning from Bhutan, I went on a trip to the town of Quairading, in the wheat belt of WA with 60 other photographers… It was a weekend away organised by the WAPF, the West Australian Photographic Federation, and specifically by Ric & Ailsa McDonald from the GEM Camera Club. I have been promising to go on one of their photographic weekends for years, but I always seem to be out of the country on an expedition of my own when the WAPF weekends come around. Well finally I was around for one, so I went, jet lag and post Bhutan tour exhaustion and all!
I left after lunch on the Friday, drove out and around Perth and straight out to York, which is always a pretty town, especially at this time of year when the countryside is starting to go green. Its such a lovely drive out through the wheat belt, and its been ages since I have been out that way, so I just ambled along really and turned a 2 hour drive into a 3.5 hour drive. When sunset arrived I was still nearly an hour out of Quairading and the ghost gums were lighting up beautifully, and then to top it off the sky turned all these wonderful colours! It was good to be reminded why I love landscape photography so much, just being there to watch the light change and listen to the birds, wonderful.
